Hi all,
i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Now that summer gatherings are here every time i go to a BBQ all there is are pasta salads or salads that have alot of mayonnaise base or whipped dressing included into the salads…how do you get around not eating these dishes without first not offending anyone for not trying there “famous summer pasta” dish, and thats all there is too eat ..im thinking about just avoiding BBQ invites ? any ideas
Hey Jay,
You could discuss it with the person inviting you before you accept the invitation. It seems a shame to miss out on the fun and social aspect of a bbq, which is very important, too. Sometimes if you learn how to shift the conversation away from uncomfortable topics, that can help (diversion works alot of the time), but also having a plan to get up and say, go to the bathroom if someone is really pressuring you or suddenly remembering that you need to do something inside or with one of the kids. Talking to the host/hostess beforehand seems like the best way to handle it, but if you are feeling that it would be too tempting for you to even attend, or if you know that people will be very forceful in trying to get you to eat something, you may choose not to attend….seems a shame, though, b/c summer is so short and there’s more that goes on at a bbq than just eating!
Another option of course would be for you to bring a salad that is made with ingredients that work for you!
Hope that helps and enjoy the sun!
